The Friends Catalogue project makes assistive devices widely accessible to people from all walks of life by mail order, and contributes donations to medical research charities. Through participation in charities' public events and trade shows serving disabled people, this program enhances awareness of and access to life enhancing resources.
Friends was started as a resource for the People with Parkinson's organization to research and source aids for daily living which would be helpful to the members of People with Parkinson's. Friends created an eight-page catalogue of innovative and affordable items to make everyday activities easier for people whose physical functioning has been affected by age or illness.
The publicity, wide availability and mail order format of the Friends Catalogue provides
important advantages of access for those needing assistive devices and reaches those who are not able to travel to retail outlets.
Friends donates five percent of each sale to the medical research charity of the customer's choice. The charities presently receive more money than Friends is retaining to help defray set up and operating costs.
