When you have a disability often doing simple everyday things, like opening a door, can be monumenal challenges or present seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Yet somewhere there may be soembody who can figure out a way, design a device or create a simple solution that can change your life. If only the tow of you can get together.
The Tetra Technical Assistance Program is making that possible, matching people with disabilities with a qualified volunteer, sucha as an engineer, design technician, or rehabilitation professional. Working together they come up with amazing ideas in response to a request if no adequate commercial help is available and if the job is wihtin the scope of Tetra volunteer capabilities. At an affordable cost, their ingenious technical solutions are giving disabled persons a new level of personal independence, whether it is self-care, performing at work, or improving the everyday quality of their life.
Each technical triumph of human ingenuity enters a service database of information on clients who require technical aid and a database of skilled volunteers, including their interests, skills and availability.
Across Canada, Tetra Groups are active in a multitude of communities sharing bright ideas and inventing clever ways for people with disabilities to more fully experience the daily joy of living. Whoever thought such matchmaking partnerhsips could open so many new doors..
